Test every entry path, branch, delay, time zone, template, personalisation fallback, link, reply, conversion, unsubscribe, suppression, failure, and exit. Use internal profiles and a controlled audience before broad release.

Assign an owner and a change process. Version important templates and logic, keep an audit trail, monitor event volume, and create alerts for unexpected enrolment or failure changes.

Measure incremental customer and business value

Match metrics to the journey: activation, purchase completion, time to value, recovered payment, renewal, repeat purchase, retention, support resolution, or healthy list quality. Delivery and clicks are diagnostics, not the whole outcome.

Where feasible, use holdout groups or staged releases to learn what the automation caused rather than what happened after it. Review customer complaints and support conversations alongside numeric performance; an efficient journey can still be confusing.

Start with one reliable, valuable event and a short journey. Launch welcome or onboarding, then add purchase follow-up, payment recovery, renewal, and re-engagement as the data foundation proves trustworthy.
